Hiking in North Dakota

North Dakota's eastern half, including Fargo, is home to the Dakota Band of Ojibwe, whose reservation is protected by the North American Indian Religious Freedom Act. The region is recognized as a national monument by President Obama. The region's early immigrant history is reflected in Minot, South Dakota, which is named after the Viking settlement. The Dakota Prairie Grass Landscape and Cultural Center in Rapid City house an outdoor museum featuring artifacts from that era.

North Dakota's western half boasts the Grand Forks Air Force Base and a major oil refinery. The Great Sand Dunes National Park encompasses much of that land. The Black Hills is one of the best known examples of this phenomenon and are protected by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. The Grand Forks Oil Refinery also offers an opportunity to visit some of the country's largest oil refineries.

The state's western portion includes the Bakken Shale Formation, and is home to North Dakota's third largest city, Bismarck. It is home to Northrop Grumman's headquarters. The Bismarck Range is home to many parks and outdoor activities, including mountain biking and hiking-in-North-Dakota. The state's northwest corner is dominated by Fort Drum, which was used by the U.S Army during World War II.

Bismarck's western edge is dominated by oil rigs. The city is home to the Dakota Continental Platform and Dakota Gas Plant. The Bakken Formation is also home to Bismarck State Park, which houses two museums.

A number of American Indian tribes and European settlers settled in the area. Many of the areas are rugged and include a variety of wildlife species. A variety of hiking trails can be found throughout the state.

The state has developed a lot of great hiking trails, including the Pembina Trails in Fargo. The trails are made up of trails within the boundaries of the National Historic Site, the Fort Ridgely Museum of Science and History, and the National Historic Landmarks. The Northern Pines Scenic Area is home to the Fort Ridgely Wilderness Trail and the Wild and Scenic River.

The state park is home to a number of parks as well, including Cedar Falls State Park. The state park contains a variety of hiking trails.
